Story : Exploration

Index

Length : 1 year

Background:

It has been fifty years after the creation of the Prime Union, the defeat of the Crok Empire and the short Clone War. During these fifty years the races of the Union have rebuilt their worlds, mended their social wounds and worked with a common goal of unity and peace. For fifty years they strived to remove the scars of the Empire. For fifty years all effort was concentrated on the Union worlds. Now, the Council has decided that is to change.

Now the focus is Expansion. The Council has called for explorers, adventures and colonists seeking new lives to go out beyond the territories of the Union and find new worlds rich in materials that the Union will need to grow and prosper for the centuries to come. To search the galaxy, to locate new races and bring them into the Union.

Dozens of Corporate and Government sponsored teams respond to the call, for reasons of finding worlds rich in materials that will increase their sponsors wealth, or of rich land where their peoples can be settled. One team, an extraordinary team, wants to explore as deep into the galaxy as they can.

This team is different from the rest. It's two leaders, sisters, Chelsea and Maya Stamford are the daughters of shipping Magnate Harris Stamford and their ship is a revolutionary design, designed by Chelsea, one of her father's top engineers. The ship is called the Star Chaser and features a new hyperspace engine that does not involve 'jumps' from points in the galaxy but direct navitation hypersapce travel. The Star Chaser is a sleek design, brightly reflecting the light of the stars. Chelsea's sister Maya is the explorer of the pair, a reknowned archeologist she brought the idea of taking up the Councils declaration to her sister. Both the sisters have brought with them their best men and women.

As the explorer ships make their way out into the vast unknown surrounding the Union the media surround the Stamford Industries shipyard where the Star Chaser is berthed and will start its own journey of exploration. It will also be the Star Chaser's first official voyage. Its shakedown trials had involved a dangerous incident where a crew member was an agent for a rival firm and the Star Chaser was ambushed by a pair of Kongs pirates. The Star Chaser, which had not been equiped with weapons managed to out manoever the old Kong ships and hide in a dust cloud until the Kongs gave up the search and returned to their lair, unknowingly being followed by the Star Chaser. The Chief Security Officer of the ship, an O'ckchuka named Hakka radio'd in a strike force of Union cruisers and troops which destroyed the Kongs base. Kong piracy was infrequent, but a nuisance over the fifty years and the destruction of the base and its ships brought the Kongs closer to extinction.

On the other side of the Prime Galaxy the powerful Elder keep watch over the mysterious Ae'thair. The two races, one a collection of individuals which have become all that they can be, and another that has invaded from another galaxy in search of mana - a power source unheard of in the Prime Galaxy - have been involved in a Cold War that has lasted for two centuries.

The Ae'thair are running low of their power source, mana, in their own galaxy and without it their civilisation would crumble. Their religious leader, The Sah'Villi, discovered and ordered the invasion of the Prime Galaxy in order to find a supply of mana, or a means of creating it so her people will continue. Until encountering the Elder, the Ae'thair expanded their control over a large portion of the spinward rim of the galaxy but had yet found any traces of mana. Upon enctountering the Elder, a short but violent war was fought until the mana expenditure grew to high as the Ae'thair tried to penetrate the Veil. Both sides revert to a Cold War stance and try to gather as much information about each other as they can.

Now, there is signs of discontent and trouble in the Ae'thair. They sit facing the Veil while their mana supply continues to deplet. The leaders amongst them turn to the Sah'Villi for an answer. In response, she conducts a poweful augury on some sentients on an occupied world. She announces that it is up to her alone to find mana and that when she has done so, she will call upon her people to her. Until then they are to wait and prepare. She takes with her a small but fast schooner, her Valkyrie bodyguard and a squad of the bravest and most skilled Hoplite warriors.

The Ae'thair create a diversion and draw away the attention of the Elder and the Sah'Villi slips through unnoticed and begins her mission, to bring mana back to her people and become their single, Surpreme Ruler.

Two small ships, crewed with the best of their kind are destined to meet in the vast Prime Galaxy. The crew of the Star Chaser will be tasked with stopping the Ae'thair and the chase will take them all over the galaxy where all will see wonderous spectacles, encounter new races, fight terrible battles and decide the fate of the Galaxy.
